Boy Abunda joins Bandila as Showbiz News Ngayon goes off the air

"Mawawala na ang SNN (Showbiz News Ngayon)...."

Two sources gave this information to reporter Arniel Serato, who added that Boy Abunda will be joining Bandila as one of the anchors.

The text message of ABS-CBN executive Roxy Liquigan confirmed the information. "Hanggang sept 9," he said about the airing of the nightly showbiz talk show.

His text message also indicated that Boy, indeed, will be part of Bandila, while SNN co-host Bianca Gonzales will be returning to Entertainment Live.

The programming move is said to put the news program in an earlier timeslot.

In an interview with Marie Lozano aired on Bandila last night, September 1, Boy pointed out, "Hindi naman po natin iniwan ang SNN, may traces pa rin ng SNN dito sa Bandila. Pinagbuklod lamang, pinalawak, pinalakas.

"At ito ay ginagawa natin dahil mas gusto nating ibahagi ang mas maraming balita sa ating mga manonood.

"It's exciting. Sabay-sabay tayo sa excitement.

"Kung ano po ang magaganap, kasama po kayo sa paglalakbay na ito."

When Bianca was asked regarding this development recently, she said: "Siguro, better if Tito Boy will say it kasi parang I am not in the position to say anything about it.

"I can give more concrete answers if it will happen. Kasi, we're very proud of the show." (CLICK HERE to read related article.)

ABS-CBN STATEMENT. Here is the statement given by Bong Osorio, head of ABS-CBN's corporate communications department, regarding the new lineup of Bandila:

"The most trusted programs and personalities have joined forces. The nationalistic news delivery of Bandila will be strengthened and expanded, and will now broadcast in an earlier time slot.

"Award-winning and seasoned ABS-CBN news anchors Karen Davila, Julius Babao, and Ces Orena-Drilon will be joined by Boy Abunda starting October 3.

"Boy is a cross-over artist who has been honed in news and current affairs with programs like Etcetera, Kontrobersyal, Conversations with Boy Abunda and The Bottomline.

"In the SNN tradition, Boy brings with him the hottest and most interesting news stories in Bandila.

"Bianca Gonzales will be given another assignment."

Tropical Storm Falcon Live Updates from TV Patrol and Bandila

Last night, the banner story of TV Patrol and Bandila was all about the latest weather bulletin on Tropical Storm Falcon and the casualties of this terrible storm. Chiara Zambrano and Kuya Kim Atienza brought their live report in New Manila, Quezon City where 30 houses were destroyed by a tornado. While Jorge Cariño reported live from Marikina City near the Tumana River where hundreds of families have been evacuated due to flashfloods. Doland Castro was in San Mateo, Rizal to visit the evacuees who lived in San Mateo-Marikina River. Atom Araullo brought his report in Valenzuela about the non-stop flashfloods in some affected areas in Valenzuela. While Jose Caritero from Legazpi City told the story on the evacuees and the latest situation about the 10 fishermen who were still missing due to bad weather.

On the other hand, Bandila brought their live report from three beautiful and brave ladies in despite of bad weather. Jenny Reyes stayed in Marikina and Gretchen Malalad monitored the evacuees in San Mateo Rizal. Apples Jalandoni reported live from PAGASA-DOST in Quezon City to bring the latest weather update on the said storm which is now leaving the Philippine Area of Responsibility early morning.

Brigada Eskwelela: Tulong Kapamilya (featuring Bandila Anchors in Catmon Integrated School)

Bandila Anchors (Ces Drillon, Julius Babao and Karen Davila) joined in Brigada Eskwela in Catmon Integrated School

"Brigada Eskwela: Tulong Kapamilya" invades Catmon Integrated School to help people in nation building and to maintain the cleanliness of the school. Bandila anchors Julius Babao, Ces Drillon and Karen Davila joined together in this project as they visited the said school in Catmon, Malabon City yesterday. They fixed the chairs and tables, painted the whole classroom and cleaned up their toilet for the students in the upcoming back-to-school on June 6.

With the help of Bayan Patroller Maritess Dumaguil and other volunteers in the said project, they are hoping that this can be help more students to enjoy their study and to change their lives after they succeed in reaching for their dreams. It was a very big change, not just for the anchors of Bandila, but for the people of Catmon in Malabon City to keep their Bayanihan Spirit come alive. The principal told them about the major problems in the said school like flash floods and lack of facilities. And they were very thankful for those people who participated in the said activity. It would be a good start for the students this school year.

Karen Davila is now back to work

MANILA, Philippines – ABS-CBN’s Karen Davila is back in the country after a three-week program at the Harvard Kennedy School in Boston.

One of the Philippines' famous broadcast journalists, Davila was among 77 picked for a leadership program fully sponsored by the Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum.

“Tatlong linggo nandoon po ako, Harvard Kennedy School sa Boston... Ang tinake ko po ay tinatawag na leadership program, sa ilalim po siya ng Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum. Sa klaseng ito, ang mga kasama ko lang ay ang mga Young Global Leaders. Seventy seven po kami sa klase,” Davila said during her first day back on her DZMM program Pasada 630.

Davila said she was fortunate to be in the class of YGLs from different countries.

“Nakakabilib. Iba’t ibang nationality, may mga Tsino, may mga Indians, mayroon pong mga Pranses, Belgians from all over the world,” she said.

The 40-year-old journalist said the leadership program was not academic in nature.

“Ang scope ng leadership program na iyon is about authentic leadership. Mga professionals na po kami lahat doon, nire-reinforce niya, binubuksan niya ang mata mo, isipan mo sa bagong uri ng liderato, pamumuno, sa pagtingin sa isang bagay,” she said.

Still excited about her recent experience, Davila shared what she learned from the Harvard classes.

“We had classes on decision-making. May klase kami sa negotiation. May klase rin kami na “The Unconscious Mind.” 

Ang tinackle ng professor, the hidden biases of good people. Kahit mabait ka, mayroon kang mga bias laban sa isang tao. Nagtuturo sila on hard and soft power...nagtuturo sila on how to influence people through a nudge... Pinag-aralan din namin halimbawa kung ikaw ay isang NGO, kung ikaw ay may isang advocacy, paano mo iyon gagawing policy sa isang bansa,” she said.

Davila also mentioned that they were able to study the Apple strategy which is “one of the most successful case studies in the United States and in the world.”

Last March 20, Davila took a study leave and was back at work Monday, April 18.

Karen Davilla turns back on Thursday

If you are wondering where is Karen Davila right now? She turns back here in Manila soon after her study in Harvard on Young Global Leadership training last March 23 until April 1. It seems like I haven't seen her tweets since then. Many of her followers wondering when will she return on ANC Headstart, Pasada 630 and Bandila. Well, she is still on leave and she will come back on Thursday.

On her Twitter account last Saturday, she will turn back to the country this week and she really miss her followers very much. Her radio partner Vic Lima confirms earlier that she will be back on Pasada 630 on Thursday, same as Headstart and Bandila.

"Hi @chuckieuno & to all asking...I was away for 3 weeks for a short Leadership Program for Young Global Leaders at Harvard ;) See you soon!"

Well, that's the good news for us. I'm so excited to watch her again and I hope she will share her most memorable experience on her studies in Harvard. Karen is truly a Young Global Leader inside out.

And one more thing, is she already seen the latest headlines here in the Philippines? I hope she did. I'm so excited to see her again. Have a great time, Ms. Karen. :)
