TV Patrol grabs nomination in an international award

The Kapamilya Network got another nomination from this year's International Emmy Awards to be held on September 28 at the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in New York City.

TV Patrol Special Coverage on Manila Hostage Crisis is the winning entry of ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs in News Category. This incident happened on August 23, 2010 (which is remembering it's 1st Anniversary tomorrow) where 8 tourists and the hostage taker himself, Rolando Mendoza, were killed after 12 hours of negotiation and became the most tragic event not just for the Filipinos but for the victims and the Chinese Community.

The said news program will also compete other News Programs in United Kingdom, Iceland and Brazil. Last year, ABS-CBN Primetime Program "Dahil May Isang Ikaw" became nominated as Best Drama Series and Sid Lucero as the Best Performance by an Actor.

KARO Fan Interview: Getting In Touch with Jan and Mark (Part 2)

Jan Enero with Mark Mahusay and Ms. Ging Reyes

Meanwhile, Jan is somewhat different from any other chatters I knew. Last December, I met him at The Loop for my Birthday EB (Actually, our first meeting. ^_^ ). He takes the newsroom closer as a larger place than he was expected.

Here's our very happy and relevant conversation via Facebook. I think there would be a second interview because he had a lot of trivias (Oh my God. Kulang pa ang isang blog nito. May Part 3 pa ba? hahaha) about TV Patrol and other things about ABS-CBN.

Jan: For the moment let's just begin here at FB chat.

Jessy: ok so let's begin

Jan: 1st question ngayon na!

Jessy: have you been dreaming of become a reporter? question from KSY

Jan: I dreamt of being a reporter before but I realized that me as reporter will remain a dream."Wala akong magagawa-tanggap ko na ito talaga-pangarap lang kita"--that's what I can say. Parang sa isang sikat na kanta di ba?

Jessy: hahaha...nice! How's your first visit inside the newsroom?

Jan: 1st visit in the newsroom--iba pala pag personal mong binisita ang News Room. I've got glimpses of that in various broadcasts of ABS-CBN. Iba talaga noong Thu night. Parang I'm seeing PH history being recorded in that place.
All events that eventually become PH history--nasa ABS-CBN News Room.

Jessy: anu ang naging impression mo sa newsroom?

Jan: Akala ko noong una ay malawak talaga ang newsroom. I was fooled by the lenses Siksik talaga sa tao at gamit ang newsroom pero maganda.Una ako'y nabigla. I was thinking:is that for real? I never knew malapit lang pala ang Office of the Senior VP for News-sa loob pa ng News Room. And News Room is at ground floor along with DZMM, DWRR, News Studios. Inside the News Room literally is the ABS-CBN News Channel newscasts' studio.

Jessy: ah...so malapit lang pala ang newsroom? still wondering ha? hahaha

Jan: It's just at the left portion of the old ABS-CBN building. Akala ko nga nasa ELJ Building ang ABS-CBN News Center. Anyway, let's go for the next series of questions...

Jessy: Ok. Sino pa ang nameet mong taga-TVP?

Jan: At News Room where news that become PH history is being chronicled, I met some prominent members of News.com who take charge of the TV Patrol chat. I met @shiereyes. Wanting to meet @barrycyrus and @nikkidlsantos but they're not around the news room. Also veteran TV Patrollers like Jing Castaneda, Stanley Palisada & Tony Velasquez were inside the News Room. Alvin Elchico & Lynda Jumilla were inside DZMM studio. Of course I met Mark and Ms. Arlene. And of course, I met Ms. Ging Reyes.

Jessy: Aside from that, how will you celebrate 25th anniversary of TV Patrol which is next year?

Jan: hahaha I don't know-one thing is for sure-I will go home early on 3-2-2012 to catch the newscast. And of course will try to connect to that chat.

Jessy: Are they very nice to you?

Jan: Funny. Nakita ko sina Sir Alvin at Ms Lynda as they were arguing over DZMM. Ms Jing was in a hurry. Sir Tony was preparing then for Rundown on News Channel. But I was able to say Hi to Stanley Palisada.Sir Stanley said Hi to me too. Ms. Ging and I talked at length. Ms. Jing, upon knowing me who visited News Room, even tweeted this morning "You should have said Hi!" They're nice. Oo nga pala-for the benefit of our tweeps: Ms. Ging is Ms Ging Reyes, Ms. Jing is Ms. Jing Castaneda. Sana di lahat confused

Jessy: The only difference is the spelling. hahaha

Jan: Oh yes the veteran TV Patrollers I saw on my visit are on Twitter: @kakanturing, @stanleypalisada, @jingcastaneda.
We have Ms Arlene, the chief admin of the chat box. We have @shiereyes who likes the song On The Floor by Jennifer Lopez even at work. We have Ms. Ging Reyes, the overall head of News. We have Sir Jojo Pasion Malig @The_CopyEditor, David Dizon and other News.com peeps who do stuff for ABS-CBNNews.com.

Jessy: ah...how wish I was there. Which people inside the newsroom do you admire most and why?

Jan: Teamwork, dedication, diligence--that's all what I can say as per why.

Jessy: if you can bring one gift that something special, what gift will you give to Ms. Ging and why?

Jan: Ay-mapapaisip ako nito...

Jessy: hahaha

Jan: It can be a prayer book, or devotional... It can be something to eat that she can share with the News Room peeps. That's what I can think of for now.

Jessy: oh!!! maganda yan.Nice gift.hahaha. Any message for all TVpeeps and the newsroom people?

To all ABS-CBN News Team members, I know you had your share of hits and misses, rooms of improvement great and small, and shining moments. It can't be denied that a news person's job is round the clock-kaya saludo ako sa inyong lahat.
Same goes for all previous and current anchors of TV Patrol.

Jessy: ah it can make a big history since they are turning 25 this 2012

Jan: Yes indeed. I hope it will go on longer like UK'S BBC Newscasts & ITV News @ 10, Australia's ABC News @ 7 & Network Nine News, US' NBC Nightly News, other long-running newscasts worldwide.

Jessy: Me too sana abutan pa yan ng magiging anak ko in the near future.

Do you know what? Dahil sa mild case of forgetfulnews ayun nagpa-pic ako. Here it is: (please click here to go to site)

Jessy: sa lahat ng TV Patrol versions na napanood mo sa buong Pilipinas, alin dyan ang mas nag-improve at alin sa kanila ang kelangan mag-improve?

Jan: In Luzon-the most improved since I watched the 1st time were 2: Isabela and Batangas. In the Visayas:hands down to Cebu.In Mindanao it's CDOC.For further improvements I want to see a more improved Pampanga edition in Luzon, Iloilo edition in Visayas & Butuan edition in Mindanao. I think Davao edition is A-OK, yup. Well expect the punch from Mayor Sara Duterte to be big news on Davao TV Patrol.Regional reports are A-OK so far.Besides Butuan, I need to see a more improved Gensan edition. Hope you have a record of our chat BTW . It's more of manpower I would like to emphasize-I can't believe there are 3-man news teams in some regions who were able to work. And I hope editions from Cotabato, Butuan, Palawan (+Dipolog if true) will be seen on the main TV Patrol website. That's for the most comprehensive regional news coverage for the website, right? In Ilocos, Pampanga, Palawan, Butuan, Cotabato: I hope there will be more reporters for those regions.I mean 4-man news teams not 3 as earlier stated.

Jessy: One last question. How did you start as a brilliant supporter of TV Patrol?

Jan: 1989/1990 I began watching TV Patrol w/Noli, Mel, Angelique & Frank. Isa pa TV Patrol has covered the news becoming PH history eventuall--no other show does that than TV Patrol.Kahit pa binato pa sila ng intriga o sigaw ng bias, tuloy pa rin sila sa pagbabalita. At nag-improve naman sila over time di ba?

Jessy: so how do you see all of the changes of TV Patrol matapos na pagkagastusan ni Sir FMG ang lahat lahat ng kagamitan ng TVP?

Jan: It went better and it keeps getting better.

Well, thanks Jan for answering my question. It was supposed to set for another interview. But we finished the interview late at night katapat pa ng Bandila. Hahaha. It was a very funny and awesome interview. Hope to meet you again. :)

Jan Enero loves ABS-CBN News

Special interview by Jessy

Editors Note: Thanks to Jan and Mark Francis for the very special and rushed interview. Ako talaga ang nag-isip ng plano eh. Hahaha. Sorry if there is something wrong with my grammar because I'm practicing pa naman. Kaya co-author lang ang trabaho ko. But it's worth it. Andami kong natutunan coming from your story. Sana magkita-kita tayong muli. :)

KARO Fan Interview: Getting In Touch with Jan and Mark (Part 1)

Mark Francis with Ms. Ging Reyes

TV Patrol Chatters Mark Francis Mahusay from San Jose, Batangas and Jan Enero (also known as TV Patrol Kid) visited the Newsroom of ABS-CBN last Thursday. They shared their memorable experience in their studio tour and they were able to see the Head of News and Current Affairs Ms. Ging Reyes. It was also the first anniversary of TV Patrol live chat also known as TVPeeps. As I interviewed them with the help of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, I had something to learn coming from these two nice people.

Mark Francis' last visit in ABS-CBN Broadcasting Center was 2009. After two years, he came back for our anniversary EB (which was supposed to happen last June 30) but since Arlene Burgos was busy, he just visited the studio of Showtime to watch live and in the newsroom, of course, to bring his special gift for the News Team which is very special for him. He is an avid fan of ABS-CBN since birth, as I noticed before. He also grabbed the opportunity to bring his gift for Ms. Ging Reyes and she appreciated his special gift.

"Di ko inexpect na mamimeet ko si mam Ging Reyes! mabait siya, amazed ako kasi di basta bastang tao si madam Ging Reyes! She's one of the most influential woman sa mundo ng Media ngaun!", he said during our one on one conversation via Twitter.

He made a specially-designed art work which he done for almost three days with full of love, inspiration and passion for ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs. As he told the story of how did he finished his art work, it seems that it looks like very cute and colorful.

"At first, mahirap siya talaga dahil cutting stage yun! bawat letters kailangan mong idrawing at i-cut isa-isa!I started doing it while watching and I finished the 1st stage, Bandila na!second day, "Glue Stage"..ididkit mo yung lahat ng letters sa illustration board and then babalutan mo ng tissue paper yung buong base.. 3rd stage, painting na! mahirap din ito..kelangan pulido ang pagkakapinta sa buong base..I made this from 8:30 pm until 2:30 am next day..haha! Nagpuyat talaga ako just to give a good product for ABS-CBN News. Well, gumastos din ako ng pera para magawa ko yun but ok lang yun, worth it naman ang pagod at gastos dahil sa tuwang ibinigay ni Miss Ging Reyes saken nung siya mismo ang tumanggap nun.. Nakakaproud talaga! All my efforts, time, and money are really paid off! I'm happy while doing it, promise!", Mark said.

He also shared his encounter with the News Team and the Newsroom. He saw that a lot of people inside the room was quite busy. He described the newsroom was almost big and a busy place for the reporters and anchors of ABS-CBN News. "Time is really important sa room nila para makapagbigay sila ng maaasahan at mapagkakatiwalaang balita at impormasyon!", he added. It was also quite different from ABS-CBN Batangas where TV Patrol Southern Tagalog came from. "Mas advance ang ABS Manila compared sa ABS Batangas. But with all fairness, ABS Batangas particularly @TVPST is really doing well..Baby pa kasi ang TV Patrol version namin dito sa Batangas! Malayo pa ang maaabot ng @TVPST, for sure!"

He admired some of the TV Personalities including Korina Sanchez, Karen Davila, Anthony Taberna, Julius Babao, and Sarite Kare, local anchor of ABS-CBN Batangas. One thing for sure, he will be waiting for them to meet up-close and personal. He also thanked the whole News Team and of course, Ms. Ging Reyes. "Sobrang Thank you for all the ABS-CBN News Team especially Miss Ging Reyes! Di ko akalain makikita at malalapitan ko siya! Syempre, naging posible ito dahil kay Arlene Burgos! If she's not there, di ko makikita si Miss Ging! Si Miss Ging ang tumanggap ng personal ng ginawa kong artwork kaya nakakaproud!", he said with full of pride.

He is getting excited to come back for the 25th Silver Anniversary of TV Patrol. And he knows everyone is excited about this because TV Patrol is already part of Filipino lives. Ika nga ni Korina, Ang TV Patrol ay Pilipino at ang Pilipino ay TV Patrol!

To be continued...

Gretchen works hard at working it (Article from Business Mirror)

Gretchen Fullido is a walking contradiction. She has the body of a ditzy bombshell but once she opens her mouth, she talks sense. And she means business.

Many do not know this but the young host-reporter is a veteran of sorts in showbizness, starting out years ago as a showbiz wannabe. But she has proven herself tenacious, and has slowly but surely made a name for herself.

Now Fullido is seen nightly in not one but two shows: TV Patrol on ABS-CBN and The Wrap on Studio 23. Things are indeed looking bright for Gretchen.

You are now the showbiz news face of TV Patrol. How does it feel being on popular news program?

It has always been a dream to be part of TV Patrol. Since I was a kid, I’ve already envisioned that somehow I would be doing what I’m doing now, being a field reporter and at the same time an anchor of the entertainment and sports segments, which is nice since I’m an athlete myself. Since I’m an only child, I remember mimicking how they deliver the news in front of the mirror and now it has become a reality. I really believe that when you work hard for something and really put your mind and heart into it, and you’re passionate about what you really want, then someday...somehow....

How is it working with news legends...let’s talk about them one by one. Noli de Castro?

It’s a great honor to be working with de Castro. I was and still am a huge fan of his, especially during his Magandang Gabi Bayan days.

On TV he appears to be very serious, but behind the camera whenever we have the chance to chat in between commercial breaks, he would mentor me on how to better do this and that, and he even suggested to do a walking shot for my “Star Patrol” segment and put emphasis on my poses when I deliver my spiels.

He is very generous in sharing his experiences and what he has learned from being in the industry and politics for so long. He also has a great sense of humor, his side comments lightens the newscast and I admire how grounded he is and his willingness to share his knowledge to me

Ted Failon?

I’ve known Failon since our dzMM days because I was an anchor for Sportstalk back in 2004 and Failon always has the best punchlines. He knows how to make you feel good about yourself, especially at times when you don’t feel so confident about yourself. He gives tips on how to do this and that with conviction, so that when you deliver your spiel, do public speaking or anything that involves delivering the news to the public, you look credible and respectable. He also has a great sense of humor—him and “Kabayan” Noli together are a dynamic duo.

What about Korina Sanchez?

Sanchez knows this for a fact—she is my idol! Hands down, when I said I was mimicking doing spiels in front of the mirror when I was a kid, the peg was Sanchez. She’s such an inspiration and I continue to have the highest respect of her work ethic, how she wants everything to be perfect. I never thought I would get the chance to work with her and even talk to her at least on a personal level, but thanks to TV Patrol, I got the chance to be with my idol. She suggests things that I could improve on, tells me on how I could angle my stories better, or encourage me to pursue stories of great public interest.

How does it feel being compared with past Star Patrollers and even the other showbiz news anchors of other news programs?

I don’t mind being compared with others, that’s how it is in the business. I don’t dwell on that though.

All I know is that I am focused on what I’m doing and that whenever I do my work, I do it the best way I can.

Not only do you read the news but you also actually go out and look for stories. What makes your job so exciting?

It’s exciting because there is no single day that’s the same; every day is an adventure. I get to meet new people, celebrities, foreign stars or superstars—what more could I ask for?

Some people do not know about your behind-the-scenes work as a reporter and dismiss you as just the pretty, sexy bombshell of the ABS-CBN News department. What can you say about this?

Thank you for even being considered that, but I can’t control what others think. As we always say, we can’t please everyone but I guess my work as a reporter would substantiate my hard work behind the scenes. It’s not all glitz and glamor being a showbiz reporter. You need a lot of patience and what people don’t see is the hours we devote to getting our stories, reaching out to our subjects, especially when it comes to controversial reports. It can be like going through an eye of a needle sometimes.

Some people also dismiss you as mataray...care to comment?

I always get that, but everyone who gets a chance to talk to me and see the real me would invariably say, “Hindi ka naman pala mataray eh” or “Ang hyper and kulit mo pala”.

You also do The Wrap on Studio 23. How does it differ from your TV Patrol gig?

The Wrap features all the highlights of local, Hollywood, Korean/Asian pop, sports and everything that is “in” and what’s being talked about. The show is really for the fans and what you see in the show is the real Gretchen: light and bubbly.

You’ve been in the business even longer than what most people readily assume. How do you sum up your experiences in the industry so far?

Like a rollercoaster! It’s a lot of fun but also with tons of sweat and tears, sacrifices and everything you can think of!

What is the most fulfilling part of your work?

Being able to touch the lives of other people and being able to share my knowledge, the stories I encounter. Being able to interview stars is just a bonus, but I’m happy to be doing what I’d always dreamt of doing. And I’m very thankful that there are people who believe in me, and because of that I will continue to do my best and improve on my craft.

TV Patrol's Weather Update makes the reporters more challenging

Tropical Depression "Falcon" gets stronger and faster as the storm moves away from the country until weekend. This headline has something to do with the reporters of TV Patrol more difficult in their job. But,in despite of bad weather that may bring more rains and flashfloods, they made their job very well. That is why TV Patrol has its slogan "Patrol ng Pilipino" for the sake of the televiewers to make them more vigilant and more alert on the weather bulletin.

Jeff Canoy live from Manila

Jeff Canoy taught at first that their team can't make it to bring the live report due to heavy rains and strong winds. He was still on stand by when the bad effect of the LPA (Low Pressure Area) affects him. But, they are both safe while doing their live report.

On the headlines, Ryan Chua doing his live report from Valenzuela, but it was repeated due to lost of the audio in his microphone while delivering his report. But then, he continued after they fixed the technicalities. Aside from heavy rains, he is also standing in the flooded area wearing his slippers just to finish the live report.

Meanwhile, TV Patrol weatherman Kuya Kim Atienza made his attempt to do his weather and traffic report from Roxas Boulevard. He is considered as the most resourceful because he is wearing his hat and doesn't blow away from his head. And his IPad also put inside the plastic to avoid getting wet. It was unbelievable when he brought the update, the rain gets stronger. But, he finished it in a nice way.

Kuya Kim's report in Roxas Boulevard.

This reporters have made the right choice to deliver their reports quickly and accurately rain or shine. I admired these people. Nice work for them. And take care always.

Rizalism Photos with a funnier side

In celebrating Rizal's 15oth birthday, some of Bayan Patrolers send their pictures with the image of our National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. And some of these photos tells about him on joining the news program and his side on the controversial RH Bill as pro-poor.

Rizal joins TV Patrol as a new anchor?

Karen's interview with Rizal on RH Bill (so funny huh? :)))
