Social Network Crimes on Failon Ngayon tomorrow

Chorale groups will also be invited to sing inspirational songs and hymns dedicated to the late Pope.

Studio 23 will also air a special episode of “Iba-Balita” on May 1, as well as news updates throughout the day, to report on the beatification.

The special coverage of ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel SkyCable ch. 27, will begin at 4pm, anchored by Ron Cruz and Lia Andanar. It will be highlighted by the uninterrupted coverage of the Holy Mass and beatification, special live reports from the Vatican, and live discussion with a panel of special guests.

The following day (May 2), “Talkback with Tina Palma” on ANC will talk about how the Blessed Pope touched the lives of Filipinos with Ambassador to the Holy See Tita de Villa, Fr. Aris Sison and Brother Dave Caesar dela Cruz.

DZMM, on the other hand, will also give updates on the biggest religious event this year and air the actual ceremony live over DZMM TeleRadyo (Skycable ch. 26) and DZMM Radyo Patrol 630. DZMM will also invite anchors Fr. Jerome Marquez, Fr. Jerry Orbos, Fr. Nono Alfonso, Fr. Bel San Luis, and Fr. Tito Caluag to serve as panelists that will provide context to the ceremony.

Blessed John Paul II served as Pope of the Catholic Church for 26 years until his death in 2005. He was also considered as one of the most influential leaders of the 20th century and was widely-admired for the way he lived the Christian virtues of faith, hope and love.

Failon Ngayon : Welcome Home, Nanay Irene (ABS-CBN News)

Probably one of the most difficult feelings in the world is being away from your mother for such a long time. For the Sto. Domingo children, close to three decades was the time spent apart from their beloved mother.

Just last April 2, 2011, we learned of Nanay Irene Sto. Domingo’s situation in the Middle East. At 76 years old, Nanay Irene is in a nursing home in Saudi Arabia. Back in 1985, Nanay Irene decided to try her luck in the Middle East and flew there to work as a seamstress. In the 26 years that Nanay Irene stayed in the Middle East, she was only able to come back home to the Philippines five times. The last time she was able to come home was 11 years ago when her daughter Irene go married.

Upon returning to Saudi that same year, Nanay Irene began to encounter problems with her employer. She was not given her salary and aside from that, her passport and documents were confiscated. In 2001, Nanay Irene contacted her son Vergel to let him know that she had left her employer. She also told Vergel not to worry about her as she was alright.

From then on, Nanay Irene became “TNT” or Tago ng tago , a term used to describe OFWs whose work documents have expired and supposedly should’ve been sent home. In short, Nanay Irene went into hiding.

December of last year, things started to go south for Nanay Irene. To monitor her mother, Vergel would call Nanay Irene every hour. Vergel noticed a change in Nanay Irene’s voice as it started to become hoarse. During this time, Nanay Irene had grown tired and had asked her son to bring her home already.

Just this last March 31, Failon Ngayon brought Nanay Irene’s situation to OWWA Administrator Carmelita Dimzon. The aim was to bring home Nanay Irene, who had already fallen ill. Vergel and his sister Irene were also able to talk to their mother who seemed to lose hope on being able to come back home. The Sto. Domingo children told their mother to be safe and told her that they were doing all that they could to bring her home.

Only a week later, Nanay Irene’s children got what they had wished for. With the help of OWWA, Nanay Irene was given an Exit Visa and she was finally scheduled to come back home.

“Sobrang saya! (So happy)” was all that Irene could say, and Vergel said that he already wanted to put time on fast forward. The joy and excitement was more than evident when Vergel and Irene were on their way to the airport to welcome their mother home.

Riding a wheel chair and visibly tired and weak, Nanay Irene was greeted by Vergel and Irene with a tight embrace. After 11 long years, Nanay Irene is home once again. Much like the warm welcome that Nanay Irene recived at the airport, she was also given the same loving welcome at home from grandchildren that she’s met for the first time.

Once back home, memories of her first born son Jun flashed back to Nanay Irene. The memories were bitter, because in 2002, Jun was the victim of a fatal accident. Nanay Irene couldn’t help but burst into tears as she looked at the photo of her late son. Probably what makes the memories all the more painful for Nanay Irene is that she was not able to come back home to the Philippines for her son.

“Gustong-gusto kong umuwi, talagang wala akong magagawa at wala akong pera...talagang masakit at hindi ko nakita ang bangkay ng aking anak. Nung ikinasal ‘yan, hindi ko nakita pagkatapos, nung nawala siya, hindi ko din nakita.
(I really wanted to come home, but there wasn’t anything that I could do, I didn’t have any money. It hurts that I didn’t see his remains. When he got married, I wasn’t there, and then when he died, I wasn’t there either.)”

Nanay Irene was a widow, so it was a bigger sacrifice for her to go abroad. Of course, she did not want to leave her children behind, but she had no choice because there was no one to help her with the finances. Because of this, her children are more than thankful for the sacrifices that she had to go through.

Because of her age, there are many things that are affecting Nanay Irene’s health so she had to undergo some checkups. It was revealed that she has started feeling different aches and pains in her body. At her age, Nanay Irene should be taken care of already and should not be working anymore.

As a little celebration for Nanay Irene’s 75th birthday, Failon Ngayon helped put together a little gathering for the Sto. Domingo family. This gathering would bring Nanay Irene together with the children that she was away from for such a long time and her grandchildren that she has never seen before.

Tears streamed down Nanay Irene’s face as the emotional get together went on. At age 75, Nanay Irene said that she has nothing left to do but enjoy life, something that she was not able to do for the past 26 years. To keep her busy, Failon Ngayon gave Nanay Irene a sewing machine, a simple gift for someone who deserves to enjoy her life.

For Nanay Irene and her children, there is probably no better moment than now, being together and not having to worry about being far away from each other again.

Julius Babao in a special Lenten Season report

Filipinos are accustomed to the Catholic tradition of penitence during Holy Week wherein the common and popularly known rites include real-life crucifixion and self-flagellation. Julius Babao gets to meet one of them this Saturday (Apr 16) in another in-depth documentary titled “Kalbaryo” in “ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs Special Report.”

Other than the conventional type of penitence done by Pinoys, Julius also talks to people who do it the unconventional way and to people who practice penitence by being good Samaritans— giving their personal wealth to help others. Also, find out what goes through the mind of former criminals who changed their ways to be absolved from their sins. What changes occurred in their lives after they made the decision to follow the good and right path?

Watch Julius’ full report on Saturday (Apr 16), 4PM to be followed by “Failon Ngyon” wherein anchor Ted Failon rescues two minors who were forced into prostitution. “Rose” and “Marie” were supposedly offered a job in an eatery but to their surprise, their recruiters brought them to a beerhouse. This is where they were forced to dance nude and used by their customers. Fortunately, there were able to escape and now they want to help those left who are also minors like them aged 10-17. “Failon Ngayon” airs at 4:45 PM on ABS-CBN.

The editor inside the studio.

I would like to thank Ms. Charity Temple for choosing my Bagong Gising Picture. It was so embarrassing 'coz my eyebags are still possessed on my face. Hahaha. But that's good. I enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and the people inside the Loop Studio. Hahaha. It's very nice to watch your show. Untill next time.

As I promised, here are some of my best pictures taken from the live studio guesting in UKG:

My Best Picture Ever (Dedicated to my very handsome and funniest idol ever)

Finally, I already seen Anthony Taberna in Umagang Kay Ganda.

Keep on smiling. ^_^

It's a great honor and very lucky to have a short conversation with Umagang Kay Ganda host Anthony Taberna. I admit, I have a crush on him. (I'm blushing again.... xD) In real life, he's quite serious, but he's really funny pala in person. I can't explain why he is always looking at me. It's weird at first because he don't know me yet, until he always nodding, and nodding, and nodding three times (I count on it. xD).

After his live news stint, he had a quite time making the staff and crew of UKG happy off-cam. As he talked to their Multimedia Producer, Ms. Charity Temple (The one who is always posting on UKG's Facebook Fanpage. Nice work huh?), I was shocked. He looked at me and made a very nice wave (as he always do during Dos Por Dos gap). He called me and talked to him for a while and had a very memorable picture taking with him. So funny. xD

I felt a greater happiness after that time. He said, "Salamat po at nandito kayo. Kamusta po kayo?" Well, gentleman ka pala ha? Anyway, salamat po at nagkita din tayo after seven months of being a no. 1 fan of yours. Actually, it's exactly my 10th monthsary since I watched this morning show. It's nice to see him in person. And thank you, Mr. Taberna for making me smile all day long. Keep up the good work and more power to UKG. God bless and stay happy always. ^_^

Blog from Jessica Marie

*Editor's Note: Thanks Umagang Kay Ganda for your invite. Thank you. ^_^

ABS-CBN launches Digital TV (DTV)

Ahwel Paz, Atty. Regie Jularbal, Miguel Mercado and Winnie Cordero
Ahwel Paz, Atty. Regie Jularbal, Miguel Mercado and Winnie Cordero

ABS-CBN presents the future of television!

The future of television looks bright and clear as ABS-CBN is ready to launch five new premium channels on free-to-air TV via Digital Television (DTV), a high-tech standard that uses digital signals for broadcast.

DTV occupies lesser space in the frequency so that a single TV station can broadcast on more than one channel, giving viewers more programs options. The new channels that ABS-CBN will unveil will cater to different audiences. The new channels to be made available include 2 channels for kids, a channel for the youth, a channel for dads and a channel for moms.

DTV also produces better picture and sound compared to the prevailing analog system. The digital TV viewing experience is comparable to seeing a movie on DVD. This spells more excitement for the viewers. Thus, climatic moments like the bus explosion in “Mula Sa Puso” or the kidnap scene in “Mara Clara” become more heart-pounding when seen on DTV. Musical numbers on “ASAP XV” are captured in more colorful detail. News on “TV Patrol” is delivered in crisper sound.

According to Miguel Mercado, ABS-CBN DTV Head of Marketing, viewers need not wait long because ABS-CBN is ready to launch DTV operations within the year. He said the company is just waiting for the final go-signal from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

“With Philippine broadcasting companies going digital, the viewing public will be able to enjoy digital quality viewing in any TV as DTV addresses the issues of poor reception, grainy pictures and choppy audio,” says Mercado.

Upon the purchase of an affordably priced DTV Digibox to be connected to the television set, viewers will be able to enjoy the five new channels for free, in addition to all existing channels broadcasting in digital. By time ABS-CBN DTV is launched, this list will include Channel 2, Studio 23, GEM TV and NBN.

ABS-CBN expects other broadcasters to follow suit since the NTC has directed the local television industry to make a complete transition to digital by 2015. NTC’s mandate will certainly benefit the general public as it puts the Philippines at par with the international standard. DTV is the system followed in the U.S., Japan, Australia, South Korea and most of Europe.

ABS-CBN has been preparing for the switchover since 2007. Recently, the network conducted DTV trials in more than 1,000 households all over the Philippines. Participants responded very positively.

A 37-year old dad said, “Mas malinaw at maraming pagpipiliang channels. Mas masaya kaming manonood ng pamilya ko.” A 26-year old female employee said, “Mas malinaw ang picture at sound,” while a 67-year old grandmother replied, “Mas maraming channels na puwedeng panooran na siguradong ikatutuwa ng buong pamilya.”

Moreover, the viewers expressed willingness to buy the DTV Digibox (which costs only as much as a DVD player) so that they could get the new channels for free. As one mother cited, “Wala ng monthly fee. One time ang pagbabayad. Magugustuhan ng anak ko.”
